IYNC 2026: Urenco engages the next generation of nuclear professionals

14 October 2026 Global

The International Youth Nuclear Congress brought together more than 500 nuclear professionals from around the world.

Urenco participated in the International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC) 2026 in Avignon, France, with a delegation of its Young Person’s Network (YPN) attending from across its sites.

As one of the event’s Gold Sponsors alongside EDF, Urenco played an active role in connecting with the next generation of nuclear professionals and contributing to discussions on the future of nuclear energy. The team hosted an exhibition booth and ran a dedicated workshop on Operational Excellence in Uranium Enrichment.

Held in the historic Palace of the Popes, under the theme “The Chain of Change,” the Congress brought together more than 500 young nuclear professionals, students and industry experts from around the world for a week of learning, collaboration and networking. The programme was designed to connect theory with real-world nuclear applications.

Keynote on Nuclear Stewardship

One of our highlights was a keynote presentation by Annelies Nass-Dekker, Urenco’s Group Strategy Manager, on the topic of Nuclear Stewardship.

Speaking in the Grand Conclave Hall, Annelies emphasized the importance of making responsible decisions today with future generations in mind. Her presentation explored the role of stewardship across the entire nuclear fuel cycle and reflected the long-term perspective that guides Urenco’s work.

Her message to the young professionals in attendance was clear: stay curious, ask questions, and challenge assumptions.

Driving continuous improvement through Operational Excellence

Later in the week, Urenco’s delegation hosted an interactive workshop on Operational Excellence in Uranium Enrichment.

The well-attended session focused on how practical activities, standardised ways of working and behavioural changes can create value and drive continuous improvement. Participants shared experiences, discussed best practice and explored opportunities to further enhance efficiency and performance across the industry.

Investing in the future of the Nuclear Industry

Urenco’s participation at IYNC 2026 reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to developing young talent and supporting the global nuclear community.
