Head of International Tax, Indirect Tax and Customs

We’re looking for a Head of International Tax, Indirect Tax and Customs.. Based at our Paddington site you’ll manage the International Tax Team, which has a broad scope with accountability for planning and compliance related to: overseas direct taxes (excluding the U.S.), transfer pricing, and global indirect taxes (including VAT, Sales Taxes, Customs duties and environmental taxes). The team has a key role as the Tax Department’s business partner for the Group’s commercial and operational functions – reviewing the tax implications of transactions, supply chains, investments and organisational changes to support business objectives.

Delegated from the Group Head of Tax this role is the effective global process owner for:
• the Group’s customs processes (i.e. movement of goods across borders),
• global indirect taxes (e.g. VAT, environmental taxes, duties and tariffs and sales taxes)
• and Dutch taxes (effective role as local Head of tax for Netherlands)

Reporting to the Group Head of Tax, the Head of International Tax, Indirect Tax and Customs is a senior member of a global tax department of 11, and has 2 direct reports (International Tax Lead and International Tax Associate). The Head of International Tax, Indirect Tax and Customs also has functional/matrix responsibility for indirect tax activities and processes performed by finance, logistics and procurement colleagues.

Works closely with the Head of Tax Compliance and Reporting to ensure that all transactions and planning is accurately reflected in the Group accounts and tax returns.

What you’ll do:

• Oversee corporate and indirect tax filings outside of UK and US (esp. Netherlands, Germany, Canada, France and Ireland) while providing input and advice to support UK and US returns as required.
• Act as the local Head of Tax for all Dutch tax matters, supporting the local Head of Finance. This includes ensuring all tax compliance filings are timely and accurately made, a constructive relationship between Urenco and the tax authorities is maintained and appropriate tax planning is undertaken
• Manage development of transfer pricing policies to reflect business change and developments in international law.
• Global process owner for indirect taxes across the Group.
• Tax approver (authority delegated by Group Head of Tax) for all enrichment Group sales (TAP process), responsible for ensuring tax risks and opportunities are identified and appropriately mitigated/secured


What do you need to thrive in this role?

• Educated to degree level.
• CTA, ACCA and/or ACA qualified or equivalent
• 10+ years experience in international tax either obtained in major accounting firm or in house at a large multinational corporation.
• Experience in both direct (corporate income taxes and transfer pricing) and indirect taxes (Customs duties and VAT) in an international context. Due to the breadth of the role, training support will be offered as necessary and prior experience of all areas covered above is preferred but not necessary.
• A high level of competency with MS Office, in particular Excel, is vital.
• Some experience of SAP and BPC would be desirable but is not essential
